NEPAD Business Monitor (NBM) is a newsletter service
containing objective, in-depth analysis and insightful
intelligence of the business of African development
under the auspices of the New
Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD).
NEPAD is an African-led initiative
aimed at transforming the African continent and ensuring
that member countries in Africa share in the economic
harvest of the 21st century. Its advent has
heralded a sense of optimism and opportunity for the
region, but it is not without challenges.
Implementation of the initiative is at an early stage,
and the scope, ambition and nature of the task of
African transformation is vast.
New opportunities are emerging
daily, but the environment is highly complex, with
multiple layers of participants, and intricate
structures and mechanisms—many of which are still
emerging. As an initiative aimed at African development, NEPAD is
unique in that it has proposed fundamental changes to
the way in which the goals of development are to be
achieved.
